What EXANTE says about the W-8BEN form
Almost everything written about this form is written about you — your residence, your treaty, your return. This page is written about the broker: what EXT Ltd (Cyprus, CySEC 165/12) states in its own documents about taking the form and withholding at source. That is the part that can be verified, and the part that differs between brokers.
Which entity this covers
Read off the EXANTE help centre, which is shared across the brand and names no entity in the articles quoted here. A neighbouring article does name the companies behind the arrangement: "XNT and EXT have acquired Qualified Intermediary (QI) status from the IRS", and separately that "as a financial intermediary and according to terms of business, Exante acts as a tax agent for its clients". The CySEC licence number is ours, not theirs — it does not appear in these documents. Paper filing is ruled out explicitly: the form is e-signed and validated during submission.
What this page does not answer
Not what you will pay, not which treaty rate applies to you, and not what to put on your own tax return. Those depend on where you are resident and on the agreement between your country and the United States — questions a broker's documents cannot settle and we hold no source for. Everything below is a statement by the broker about the broker.
Does EXANTE take a W-8BEN form?
Yes, and inside the account. EXT Ltd (Cyprus, CySEC 165/12) takes the form electronically during onboarding or from the account area, with no paper and no posting.
“Please fill out the questionnaire in the Client’s Area under the Settings → Profile → Agreements page. The system will automatically generate the necessary document for you to sign electronically, so no paper forms are needed.”
Does EXANTE withhold US tax at source?
EXT Ltd (Cyprus, CySEC 165/12) states that it withholds US tax at source. The deduction happens before the money reaches your account, so the amount you see credited is already net of it.
“Although the IRS issues W-8 forms, they should be submitted to EXANTE, acting as the withholding agent, rather than sent directly to the IRS.”
What US dividend withholding rate does EXANTE name in its documents?
30% — that is the figure EXT Ltd (Cyprus, CySEC 165/12) names in its own documents, quoted in full below. It is what the broker publishes, not a calculation of what applies to you.
“Failure to submit the form by the end of each year will result in withholding the maximum rate of 30% applied to foreign entities or individuals.”
How long does a W-8BEN stay valid at EXANTE?
EXT Ltd (Cyprus, CySEC 165/12) states a validity period for the form, in its own words below. When it lapses, the form has to be filed again.
“All W-8 forms remain valid for the year they are signed and three full calendar years afterwards.”
